Our only requirement is that ads hosted on our site contain at least one photo. We don't do "text-only" ads.
If you take your own photos, check out our helpful tips.
If you have a video but no photos of your horse, you can send us a good quality digital video file, and we'll take STILL SHOTS OFF THE VIDEO for use in a "photo" ad at no extra charge. If you prefer, you can submit your ad information by email to firstname.lastname@example.org
Payment may be by check or money order made out to Horsesales, Inc. and sent to our mailing address, or by credit card or e-check through our secure processing service --
When sending payment separately from an ad, ensure proper credit for your ad by noting your horse's name or the ad's contact on your check or money order, or by noting in your ad information that you have paid by credit card or e-check on-line. Our ad volume is low enough to allow us to give personal attention to each seller, so rest assured that we will contact a seller personally if any questions arise about ad information or payment.
If you send us photos by mail, please remember to include a phone number or email address, and an address where you would like us to return them. We do not charge extra for returning photos and videos.
Most ads will be posted the same day received, but we ask you to allow 3 days in case we have questions about your ad content or ad payment.
Horsesales, Inc. does not employ agents to sell horses on commission, but we do have a business relationship with independent sales agents who use our service to facilitate their business.
If you are a start-up business and you need a very basic web site presence but you don't have time to do it yourself, we are now offering to set up a site hosted by WIX or VISTAPRINT for $250, that you can then take over and maintain yourself, or we will maintain it for you on a pay as you go basis (for instance, a 10 minute update of text and photos would cost $10). Hosting fees and domain name registration is extra and paid to WIX or VISTAPRINT, generally about $150 annually. We also offer business card design and production to fit any budget.
We can create a new custom HTML5 or Wordpress web site for you at the internet service provider of your choice, for a flat one time fee of $500. This price includes search engine optimization, submission of your site to the major search engines and related directories, and assumes that you supply us with most of the materials we need, such as text and graphics.
We don't charge extra for scanning photos or logos from printed materials, and we are flexible about the content and number of pages included in the site. We can use any existing graphics you have, such as business card or letterhead logos. If you already advertise in print, we can use the same graphics for your web site, either from the printed page, or from a computer file. We are able to convert graphics from almost any format you may already use (even paper). Don't worry if you don't have a logo, we can still come up with an attractive and unique web site design for your business that won't cost extra. If you need a logo for long term use in your business, and don't mind the extra cost for logo design, we can refer you to a designer who can provide you with a logo that you can use on a web site as well as for other applications.
This web site design price includes the first month's hosting if you host your site on our web server. Our rate for web site hosting is $15 per month if paid monthly or quarterly, or $12 per month if paid upfront for a 1 year term ($144 per year). You will need to pay domain name registration/renewal, generally $35/year. So total start up cost for a new custom web site will be $500 (site design) + $144 (hosting) + $35 (domain name) = $679 total for the first year. Ongoing expenses are for hosting and domain name billed monthly, quarterly, or annually for a discount. You can register your domain name for a longer term (5 years is most common) for a discount. We handle all the details of your domain name and hosting for you.
You will enjoy a lot of extra service by hosting your site with us, including free links or banner ads on our high traffic web site, free Google mail setup or Google Apps for business setup, Google Analytics reports, Wordpress blog, and all the other features you expect. When you host your site with us we set up every feature of your site, customized as you request.
We offer general computer consulting if you need advice on what kind of computer and software to buy, help setting up your system, software upgrades, virus and malware cleanup, and email setup and configuration.
We have extensive experience with these web technologies:We can help you take advantage of these tools and many other tricks of the trade.
If you've heard about new technology for your business but don't know how to get started using it or whether you even need to, we can do that research for you and assist with setup and integration. We charge $60 per hour for general consulting. We also maintain an extensive network of other computer professionals who we can refer to if you need help that is beyond the scope of our services.
Our web server is continually monitored by personnel on site at the server facility, and we have never had a significant unscheduled outage. Our primary technical backup is Nick Moore, who can help our clients with email or web site issues if we are not available.
We can deliver your video on DVD or as a computer file ready to upload to YouTube or other video hosting services, or we can upload to YouTube or other cloud services for you. We are happy to work with you to provide whatever you need in the way of a video. If you have more than one horse for us to videotape in a session, we can accomodate you.
Email email@example.com for more information about videotaping and editing services.
Dark horses need light backgrounds, light horses need dark backgrounds. The background should be fairly consistent behind the entire body of the horse.
Pictures come out best on a sunny day, with the sun to your back.
In an indoor arena, make sure any bright doorway or window is at your back.
Avoid bright sunlight - early morning or late afternoon sun is better, if possible.
If your camera allows, turn the flash ON (especially on a dark day, or indoors), but natural sunlight hitting the horse's side, and coming from behind the photographer, is always better.
Try to get a side view "conformation" shot, a front view, and a shot of the horse moving.
When you are close to the horse, it helps the perspective to bend your knees a little and shoot the picture level or pointing slightly up toward the horse's head. It's always best to avoid shooting down at the horse from a higher vantage point, level shots look best.
Try to make sure the horse's ears are forward, nobody likes the look of pinned ears!
For conformation shots, try to get the horse standing with all four feet flat on the ground, preferably with all four legs showing separately, and with the horse looking straight ahead with neck stretched and ears forward.
Photos taken by a professional are worth the cost and will also give you something to keep to remember your horse. If you have a horse at the local racetrack that you want to sell, your best bet is to call the track photographer and request that they take a photo of your horse during morning training hours or during a race.
If you want to use photos taken by a professional from a show or race, you must get permission from the photographer. Most photographers don't mind if you use their photos as long as credit is given in the ad and you ask them for permission first.
If you are making a road trip to look at horses, use maps.google.com to get a map and driving direction. For hotel booking we like PRICELINE and for sightseeing information in Kentucky we recommend TripAdvisor.
If you need to arrange shipping or are just wondering what the shipping cost might be if you buy a horse long distance, we have listed some shipping companies that you can contact. Shipping arrangements and costs are generally the responsibility of the buyer unless otherwise negotiated with the seller, so it is a good idea to check on shipping before making an offer on a horse.

Need to do a pre-purchase vet exam on a horse that you want to buy? Since many of our advertised horses are in the Louisville area, we have listed a few local vets. Please remember that we have a lot of horses around here and the vets stay very busy with regular clients, plus breeding season and race meet activity. You may have to call several to get an appointment or ask if they can refer you to another vet. The local clinics do very thorough pre-purchase exams, but you may have to trailer the horse to the clinic.
